FATA parliamentarians extend full support to President
The parliamentarians from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on Tuesday while vowing to thwart any attempts at derailing democracy, extended their full support to the democratically elected government and the President.Briefing the media, Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said the Fata parliamentarians reiterated their support to President Asif Ali Zardari.
They said the President had been elected in accordance with the Constitution and they would not allow any attempt to destabilize the President or the system.
President Zardari appreciated the stance of FATA parliamentarians and said that Pakistan Peoples Party was entrusted power by the people of Pakistan.
He said the democratically elected government would face all challenges head on and would continue to serve the people of Pakistan.
He said it was the power of the people behind the government that enabled it to confront the challenges faced by the country when PPP government took over.
The President said the government and the Party was committed to bring in social and political reforms in the tribal areas as announced by him on the eve of Independence Day. He said that appropriate steps were being taken to start implementation of the announced reforms.
Speaking on behalf of the FATA legislators, the delegation leader Munir Khan Orakzai MNA extended full support to the President.
He said they have a few issues concerning their area which have been conveyed to the government for redressal, yet they stand united behind the democratically elected government and would not allow any elements to work against stability of the democratic system.
The parliamentarians after their meeting with the President told APP that they want justice to be done, but without any air of confrontation.
MNA Zafar Baig Bhittani said, “we have come here to express our full solidarity in this hour of trial and tribulation with the elected government, to thwart any move to damage or derail democracy or to topple the democratically elected government or the president.”
He regretted that a lot of hype has been created by some sections of the media to bring into confrontation the two major institutions of the country.
He said it was their attempt “to douse and defuse the situation.”
“[I] would like to request and advise both of them to remain within their defined jurisdiction and precincts, so that we should have a smooth government in which we can deliver to the people and the masses who pin a lot of expectations and hopes with this government and the judiciary,” he said.
He said the country can only progress if both the institutions respect each other while remaining in their own ambits and avoid any situation that does not lead the coming generations to blame them for the mistakes.
MNA Munir Khan Orakzai said the meeting had only a one-point specific agenda to have democratic stability in the country and assured the government of its full support in this regard.
“We want that all state institutions should continue to work while remaining within their own ambits,” he said.
“It will be our effort that there is rule of law in the country and democracy flourishes,” he said.
He said Fata members assured the President of their full cooperation in this regard.
Minister for Zakat and Ushr Noorul Haq Qadri said the FATA parliamentarians have decided to protect the democratic system, ensure its continuity and bring the country out of its problems.
He said under the prevailing circumstances the country cannot afford to face any confrontation.
“We will fully support the President and we appeal all other political forces that they too should come forward to save the system and extend support to the President.”
The meeting was attended by Minister for Environment Hameed Ullah Jan Afridi, Minister for Zakat and Ushar Pir Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, Minister of State for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Abdul Razzaq, Senator Engr. Malik Rashid Ahmed Khan, Senator Haji Khan Afridi, Members National Assembly Munir Khan Orakzai, Malik Bilal Rehman, Jawad Hussain, Mohammad Kamran Khan, Shaukat Ullah and Zafar Beg Bhittani.
Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira, Minister for Water & Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Senator Sardar Ali and Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar were present during the meeting.
